• What does a Torus Station cost?

  Qualifying Rocky Mountain Power, Pacific Power, and Portland General Electric customers pay no capital cost — the utility covers it. You pay a monthly subscription for monitoring and maintenance, which is typically less than your bill savings (and that's not including savings from prevented downtime or machine damage). Outside those territories, Torus offers energy as a service, a single monthly payment covering your full system, or direct purchase options.

• Will installation disrupt our operations?

  Part of the installation requires a brief scheduled outage, but it's minimal and planned around building operations and tenant needs. The system connects to the line side of the building's electrical service, which minimizes scope and tenant-side impact. The rest of the installation happens outside the building with no disruption.

• What types of commercial buildings does Torus work with?

  Torus works with commercial properties from 500 kW to 15 MW peak demand and above — offices, retail locations, warehouses, hospitality venues, and educational campuses. The system is sized to your building's load profile and adapts automatically as tenant mix, occupancy, and seasonal loads change.

• How do I reduce demand charges in a commercial building?

  Demand charges are based on your building's single highest power draw in a billing period — often driven by simultaneous HVAC startup, refrigeration, and lighting loads. Reducing that peak without curtailing operations requires a system that can detect the spike and respond before the 15-minute metering window closes. Torus learns your building's load profile and discharges automatically when demand approaches a set ceiling, keeping the peak off your bill.

• What's the best backup power option for a multi-tenant building?

  Backup generators are the most common option, but they take 5–30 seconds to transfer — long enough to drop elevators, fault HVAC, and disrupt tenant systems. Torus transfers critical loads in as little as milliseconds.  For buildings with an existing generator, Torus bridges the gap between the outage and generator startup, keeping systems online during the transfer.
