About the Role

As an Energy Storage Design Engineer (a Torus Architect), you will be instrumental in the initial phases of project development. Your responsibilities will include conducting site visits, developing preliminary (10%) system designs that can be permitted/installed, and maintaining direct communication with customers. During the design phase of the project it will be important to understand the electrical infrastructure that exists at each site to best plan the method of interconnection and establish the value that can be delivered to the customer. You will also need to assess the site and consider the space and grade constraints to set the project up for a successful and cost effective installation. Technical expertise in hardware, electrical systems, and energy consumption analysis will set you up for success to be able to optimize project feasibility and design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive site assessments to gather essential data for project planning.
  • Develop preliminary system designs to facilitate early-stage project discussions.
  • Act as the primary point of contact with our customers during the design and installation process, maintaining regular communication to keep them informed.
  • Translate complex technical systems and processes into simple concepts and terms for customers.
  • Analyze energy consumption data to inform design decisions and optimize system performance.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless transition from design to implementation.
  • Validate that systems are installed according to plan and meet customer expectations, which may involve travel to customer locations.
  • This role involves regular daytime travel, primarily within the state of Utah for site visits and project evaluations. Occasional overnight travel in Utah and/or out of state may be required.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Business, or a related field or or a combination of relevant experience and/or education.
  • 5+ years of experience in system design and site evaluations within the commercial, industrial, and renewable energy sector.
  • Knowledge and experience with solar DC and AC solar collection system design.
  • Familiarity with codes and standards governing renewable energy systems and storage installation, including the National Electric Code.
  • Strong understanding of renewable energy technologies, storage solutions, and industry trends.
  • Proficiency in analyzing energy consumption data and understanding power billing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with customers and team members.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Valid driver's license, satisfactory driving record and ability to operate a company vehicle.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with design rendering using Aurora (preferred) or similar tools like Solo.

Experience Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Business, or a related field or or a combination of relevant experience and/or education; and 5+ years of experience in system design and site evaluations within the renewable energy sector.
Location + Travel The role is on-location based with some remote work. You will conduct your work both at installation locations throughout Utah the United States and remotely from your home office. You may be asked to travel to installation locations and may be exposed to unpredictable weather conditions. May require occasional onsite work in our South Salt Lake Headquarters Warehouse (air-conditioned) and/or in our Springville R&D warehouse (air-conditioned and non air-conditioned).
Schedule Full-Time, Salaried
Compensation $80,000 - 100,000 (Note: We have the flexibility to hire at different levels, which may impact the corresponding pay range.)
Work Authorization Applicants must already have the legal authorization to work in the US without requiring any employer sponsorship
Physical Requirements 
  • Must have the ability to safely lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. 
  • Prolonged periods of standing, bending and kneeling could at times be required.
  • Capable of safely climbing a ladder to get on/in attic and roofs.
  • Ability to read, identify, observe and recognize details, color-coding and fine print at close range on associated engineering drawings.
  • Ability to don personal protective equipment to include, but not limited to, respiratory protective equipment with proper seal, coveralls, ear protection, gloves, eye protection & safety helmet. 
  • Ability to communicate information so others can understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Must report to work reliably and with the ability to use full and unimpaired skills and judgment to safely execute your job.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English required.
