About Torus

Torus is headquartered in Utah and is expanding manufacturing at our 540,000-square-foot facility in Salt Lake City called GigaOne. Our mission is to build the world’s first mesh energy infrastructure — built to unite people and communities through resilient, secure, and intelligent power. We design, engineer, manufacture, install, and support our systems end-to-end, standing behind them throughout their lifecycle. Torus systems help reduce costs, lower emissions, and protect facilities from outages, while strengthening the security and reliability of the broader utility grid. Torus is committed to American manufacturing, engineering excellence, and building energy systems that last.

At Torus, you will be part of something larger than a single product or technology. Your work will help build energy infrastructure that supports critical systems, industry, and communities for decades to come. We value accountability, collaboration, and clear thinking. We are looking for people who want to solve hard problems and build things that matter.

About the Role

Torus has an opening for a highly skilled and motivated Electrical Engineer with proven technical experience to join our Overwatch Operations team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and sustainability of products like our battery energy storage systems (BESS) and flywheel energy storage systems (FESS), with a focus on commercial-utility-scale deployments, grid interconnection, and compliance with utility requirements. This position involves performing remote troubleshooting, system performance analysis, and implementation of maintenance strategies to maximize asset up-time and performance.

You'll work with our integrated energy storage systems that combine battery arrays, power inverters, and our proprietary flywheel technology. This role requires understanding DC power systems, battery management, power electronics, and how these systems integrate with both customer facilities and utility grids.

Responsibilities

  • Actively troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical and performance by engaging hands-on with equipment as well as remotely, ensuring a deep understanding of system operations and real-world challenges.
  • Ensure all work activities comply with safety protocols and industry standards, identify and mitigate electrical hazards, and promote a culture of safety across field operations and maintenance activities.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of equipment failures and system disruptions, lead post-mortem reviews to identify lessons learned, and implement preventive measures and actionable solutions to enhance system reliability and prevent recurrence.
  • Use monitoring systems and data analysis to identify performance issues and prevent equipment failures.
  • Collaborate across departments—including design, construction, operations, and utility partners—to ensure optimal system performance and seamless upgrades.
  • Monitor and optimize power quality, voltage regulation, and frequency response to meet utility grid codes and performance requirements.
  • Support the training and upskilling of the Overwatch team on new tools, technologies, and industry advancements.
  • Participate in rotating on-call schedules to provide technical support and emergency response for system issues outside of business hours.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Develop and update technical documentation, including electrical schematics, operational procedures, and incident reports.
    • Provide regular reports and performance updates to senior leadership, highlighting key trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in power systems, industrial electrical, or related technical fields.
  • Strong foundation in power fundamentals: AC/DC systems, three-phase power, electrical distribution.
  • Experience with power electronics (inverters, converters, motor drives) or battery systems.
  • Hands-on electrical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Working knowledge of how utility grids operate and interconnection basics.
  • Experience with monitoring/control systems and data analysis tools.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites and work flexible hours for emergencies.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in energy storage, renewable energy, or commercial-utility-scale power systems.
  • Knowledge of battery management systems (BMS) and lithium-ion technology.
  • Familiarity with utility interconnection standards (IEEE 1547, UL 1741).
  • Understanding of demand response programs and grid services.
  • Safety certifications (OSHA, NFPA 70E, arc flash awareness).
